Niche skill: Exploring new avenues for editorial coverage

The Go-Getter: While yesterday's account executive might have relied on press releases to make news, Springboard's Mark Tordik takes a multi-pronged approach to get clients traction for their campaigns. Leaving no stone unturned, Mark engages both traditional outlets and new mediums to gain attention for his clients. Since joining the agency in 2003, Mark is responsible for account management, competitive intelligence, media and analyst relations, and the creation of compelling copy. Mark's "polite persistence" approach with the media has resulted in many home run articles for an array of Springboard clients within tech fields such as Business Process Management (BPM), Networking, Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Virtualization and E-Mail Marketing.

Give the People What they Want: Securing his first "hit" for a public sector IT client in Government Computer News within months of joining the agency, Mark's ability to flex his media relations muscles has resulted in a string of quality coverage for other Springboard clients. Specializing in research -both what he's pitching and the audience he is communicating with- and using innovative approaches beyond the traditional press release, Mark addresses his clients' need for exposure in the media through resourcefulness, innovation and persistence. When a recent client expressed desire for coverage in Information Week, Mark came through by landing a powerful full-page profile, relying on his seasoned skills as a media relations specialist to secure coverage.

Where he got His Start: Prior to joining Springboard, Mark interned at Brody Public Relations where he studied under the tutelage of PR and communications veteran Beth Brody. While at Brody, Mark was responsible for writing press releases and managing media outreach projects.

Prior to working at Brody, Mark was an intern for FOX 5's Good Day New York show where he received invaluable hands-on experience, and produced a segment titled, "Job Interview: Do's and Don'ts." His main responsibilities included interviewing and booking guests, delivering scripts to directors, line producers and anchors during the show, assisting producers in video research for upcoming segments, and greeting and briefing multiple guests in the Green Room prior to each show. This experience gave him frontline insight into broadcast media and the elements required for creating a powerful segment.

Eat More Chicken: In addition to possessing a passion for exploring new avenues for media coverage for his clients, Mark is equally zealous in his pursuit of optimal health. Known for constantly changing his diet and fitness routines, Mark believes every PR pro who spends significant time at their desks can benefit from taking care of their health to increase productivity and optimize their performance. Eating right, says Mark, gives him the energy he needs to be a constant and consistent media maven.
